Privacy Policy
1. Our promise
Your site is for your people, not for strangers or search engines. We collect only what we need to run it, we never sell it, there are no ads, and we follow Canada’s privacy law (PIPEDA). In Our Life is operated by RKP Atlantic Business Services (687441 N.B. Inc.), New Brunswick, Canada.
2. Private by default
Every site gets a random address, never your names, and is hidden from search engines. Only people with your link get in; you can add a password or let in invited guests only, and make a new link anytime so the old one stops working. We remove location data from photos, photo downloads are off unless you allow them, and pages about children are never public.
3. What we collect
From you (the hosts): your name, email address and province (for sales tax), what you put on your site (text, dates, places, photos, registry items, guest list) and your invoices. From your guests: what they choose to send through your site, such as RSVP answers, names, an email address, messages, photos and gift notes. Technical records such as IP addresses and login times. Your card number is entered in our payment processor’s secure window: we never see or store it, only the last 4 digits, the expiry date and a token.
4. Your guests’ information
What guests send through your site goes to you, the hosts, and you decide what is shown on the site. We store it for you and don’t use it for anything else. Cash gifts go by Interac e-Transfer straight from the guest’s bank to yours: we never see or hold that money.
5. Why we use it
To run your site, bill you and send receipts, send account emails (login links, reminders before your site goes offline, payment problems), stop fraud and abuse, and answer you when you write to us. Tips and news by email only if you said yes; you can unsubscribe anytime.
6. Who helps us
Our payment processor (card payments) and our hosting provider Hetzner, whose servers and backups are in Germany. They may only use your information to provide their service to us. Your information may therefore be stored outside Canada and be subject to the laws there.
7. Cookies
Your dashboard uses one cookie to keep you logged in and one to remember your language. On your site, a cookie remembers that a guest opened your link, entered your password or found their invitation, so they don’t have to do it again. No advertising cookies.
8. How long we keep it
A free site stays online until 12 months after your event; an Event Pass or the Family plan keeps it longer. When a site goes offline we keep everything for 90 days, email you before and during that time, then delete the site, its photos and its guests’ answers. Invoices for 6 years after the end of the tax year, as Canadian tax law requires. Backups roll over within a few months.
9. Security
Encrypted connections (https), passwordless login links that expire in 20 minutes, encrypted off-site backups, and access limited to the people who run the service.
10. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete your site, or withdraw consent. Write to our privacy officer at [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
